Future psychologist?

Like Ana Patricia, I'd also like to become a psychologist.
I want to help people with their problems.
I know some psychologists and they impress me because they help a lot of people and earn money with that. I know that it isn’t a big help because the patients pay for that. But it's a good job, I'd like work in things that I like and earn money with that.
I want to practice psychology with children and specialize academically in that.
I know that I have to study a lot for that, but it's like a dream since I was a little girl.

Volunteering

Volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others without being motivated by financial or material gain. Volunteering generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good or improve human quality of life. People also volunteer to gain skills without requiring an employer's financial investment.

Benefits of volunteering

There are two major benefits of volunteering:

Economic benefits: activities undertaken by volunteers that would otherwise have to be funded by the state or by private capital, so volunteering adds to the overall economic output of a country and reduces the burden on government spending.
Social Benefits: volunteering helps to build more cohesive communities, fostering greater trust between citizens and developing norms of solidarity and reciprocity that are essential to stable communities.

Volunteering impress me. I like to see people help the others to live better, its a altruistic activity very impressive.

What to do to impress?

It is important that you make a good impression at work. If you make a good impression on your boss, he or she is more likely to give you more responsibility which can lead to promotions and raises. Here are a few ways to make a good impression at work:
- Using good manners will help you make a good impression with your boss and also your co- workers.
-When you make a mistake at work don't ignore that, take responsibility and come up with a solution to fix your mistake.
-Reasonable bosses know that a sick employee not only isn't productive, he or she can spread an illness around the office rendering everyone else unproductive, call in sick when you need to.
-Your ability to complete projects in a timely manner will help you make a good impression on your boss.
-Make a good impression at work by wearing the right clothes.
-When you represent your employer at a business meeting making a good impression on other attendees will in turn help you make a good impression on your boss.

Stress at work

Warning signs of excessive stress

When people feel overwhelmed, they lose confidence and become irritable or withdrawn, making them less productive and effective and their work less rewarding. If the warning signs of work stress go unattended, they can lead to bigger problems. Beyond interfering with job performance and satisfaction, chronic or intense stress can also lead to physical and emotional health problems.

Signs and symptoms of excessive job and workplace stress:
-Feeling anxious, irritable, or depressed
-Apathy, loss of interest in work.
-Problems sleeping
-Fatigue
-Trouble concentrating
-Muscle tension orheadaches
-Stomach problems
-Social withdrawal
-Using alcohol or drugs to cope

That videos are funny but we have to be careful with that, working is good for everyone but stress at work place can destroy our normal life.

ilegal work

More than 3000 boys and girls work illegally and in precarious conditions; this adds to 3.500 adolescents that work in similar conditions and without labor rights in the collection and processing of chestnut. A big quantity of them present (decline )held back in school because of this work, others got sick with malaria or parasitism; but their worst ailment is to be held as cheap hand labor for the working market or the Amazonia north of Bolivia.

This work force, formed by boys, girls and adolescents, is presented to the working market with the objective of increasing the poor incomes that adults get. There is no inspection on behalf of the state in connection with child and adolescent labor, nor institutions that look after the integrated exercise of their rights. The right to access proper health services, education, recreation and a decent life for many, has remained in paper. If we talk about labor rights of the adolescents the sight is even worse, they don’t even count as direct workers in the companies. They fulfill all the obligations of an adult also in their homes. Work in the forest, at the factory and at home: they don’t have time to dream.

It's very sad see people work in this conditions and children works very hard. Most immigrants, legal or illegal, are hard working people that are doing the best they can to make a better live for their families but Working illegally is not the best option. Everyone has the right to fight for their dreams and earn money to support their families, but without affect other.

Worst Jobs

The next time you are tempted to complain about your job, spare a thought for this guys!

A hilarious bunch of pictures sent to us - you’ve got to admit…some of these jobs are PRETTY bad! And a joke to boot…
When you have an “I Hate My Job” day, try this. On your way home from work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the thermometer section and purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson. Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your doors, draw the curtains and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed. Change into very comfortable clothing and sit in your favorite chair. Open the package and remove the thermometer.
Now, carefully place it on a table or a surface so that it will not become chipped or broken. Now the fun part begins.

Take out the literature and read it carefully. You will notice that in small print there is a statement, “Every Rectal Thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson is personally tested”. Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times, “I am so glad I do not work in the Thermometer quality control at Johnson & Johnson.”

  • REMEMBER, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSE WITH A JOB THAT IS MORE OF A PAIN IN THE ASS THAN YOURS.

My opinion on the world of work

Nowadays the world of work is very competitive.
Even thought there are more and more technical advances, find a Job is very difficult...There are lots of people unemployed.
People need to earn money to support their family. I’m surprised with women who have children and have a job at the same time. It’s very difficult to support one family and take care of their children. In this case, working at home, help moms to have a time for their children and work at the same time. Working at-home, only exist due to technical advances.
There are some inconvenients of having a Job. People might get exhausted, they don’t have time for their children and do the chores. The advantages are earn by many things and support the house’s bills.
In everywhere, men, women and children work at different jobs. In the rich industrialized society, there are amazing job’s that we can’t imagine. There are very contrasts and injustices in the world of Job.

The newspapers “the Boston Globe” , famous photographers taken photos about this the theme “work”.

My dream Work

My dream work is to be psychologist. This job fascinates me. Study the people, their feelings, etc.
I like feeling useful to society and help people with problems.
Psychologists have advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are - help people, making them feel better with themselfs and the disadvantages are that they can't help everyone. There are a lot of people with problems.
Problems of self-esteem, children without parents, people that had a difficult chilhood. I want to work as a psychologist so bad.
I saw "Dr.Phil" and i was fascinated, he solves the cases very well. It is very impressive for me.
I love the world of psychology!
I wish i could be a psychologist to help people everyday!

9 areas with future

Health and Social Assistance

The population is getting older and the support to the old people will be needed -
psychogerontology. The hopitals use new and sophisticated technology, and its maintenance must be ensured - Technics are needed.

Turism

Turism has been expanding itself in the labour market, so it's  an economic activity which leads people to have a good career.

Aesthetics and welfare

Health clubs, Spas, Wellness Centres and gyms guarantee people, sophisticated treatments andway to get the 'perfect body'. Lots of people like to go to the gym and workout and this is turning into more common activity in our society. The life expectancy has increased and people want to have a younger look so they search for these types of centres.

Environment

With the degradation of the environment, the installation of ways to do renewable energies are also needed - if we want to save our world.

Transport and logistic

Everyone likes to have mobility and goods, and that makes the areas of logistic and transports gain importance.

Culture and Entertainment

The labour market is asking for multi-profissional people and one profession that is emerging nowadays is the
independent cultural producer. A person who knows a little bit of production, management, sociocultural animation, plastic arts, programmation and that also knows how to negociate sponsorships and establish international partnerships is very demanded

Marketing and Communication

This is one of the areas that its developement is going to be greater due to the new technologies - the future will be with the new technologies.

Life sciences

Jobs that have something to do with science, as biology is a great bet to whoever love to do investigation and these types of things related with sciences...

Education

I know that there are a huge amount of teachers who aren't employed but this profession is seen as one of the jobs of the future.  This is also because of those who even though are working want to have a better formation. The growth of the use of new technologies such as the
e-learning represents another chance to teachers that are unemployed.

Of course, some of these jobs have to do with the area I'm currently studying in high school, but it just doesn't fit with what I want to study in college. Just because these are the areas with future, should I go to one of these areas? I don't think so, we should study what we want to even though it's hard to find a job in those areas.

Employment rate

(Click on the image to see it larger)

Everybody speaks about the unemployment rate so I will talk about the employment rate.
I know you will look at the table and think 'Portugal hasn't a bad employment rate, it's the 15th country overall' - but in my opinion it's not that good, because we are a little country with 10 million people and we still just have 66% of employment rate.

It may sound stupid what I'm going to say but some people who are unemployed are in that situation because they want to, it's better to stay at home all day long while receiving money from the government, others of course are unemployed because no one accepts them due their age, qualifications etc. The fact is that in mall centres there are loads of shops which are asking for employees and the announces are on the doors for months, maybe people just don't want that type of work, but I think if I was unemployed I'd accept anything to be able to survive.

What do you think about this? If you want, leave your opinion on the comments. ;)

The labour day

The labour day was created after a movement made by workers on the Chicago streets (1886). The timetable wasn't always as good as it is nowadays, people had to work 16 hours so they thought 16 hours was too much and they wanted it cut to half. Thousands of people have participated in that movement, which created strikes on a large numbers of works.
This revolt was known as the revolt of Haymarket.

Three years later, in paris, Raymond Lavigne, decided to convoke an anual movement to fight against the 16 hours of timetable - the chosen date was May 1st.
There was a revolt every year, so after more than 30 years of movements, the French senate ratified the 8 hours timetable and proclaimed the May 1st as a national holiday. Since then, other countries adopted the same national holiday and the same timetable.

Labour day in Portugal

As always, Portugal is one of the last countries to accept what's good to the population and only after the fall of the 'New State' the Labour day started to be celebrated.

The best job in the world

Earlier this year, it was reported that a job in an australian island, the Hamilton island, was being offered to whoever found interesting the type of job that was being offered.

The person chosen for this job must speak proper english and be like the "Caretaker of the Islands"(as they described it) to "house-sit" islands of the Great Barrier Reef for half a year. The employee's reward is going to be 105.000$ for six months, plus, the new employee's going to receive free flights from his birthplace. However the work on the island must be done and he will have to: feed the animals, clean pools, observe the wales' divings...
...ah, and has to post texts on a blog and pictures, videos showing how the day has been - Doesn't it sounds familiar to you?...Blogs :P

Over 34.000 people from 200 different countries have applied for this job, including people from Portugal, Japan, Germany, the UK etc.
The person who won the best job in the world was a British man, Ben Southall.

So, what do you think about this job? Would you applicate to it?
Personally, I think it's a good chance if you want to be well rewarded but it doesn't seem to be the type of job that people should do just for the money. I think he needs to like what he's going to do...Being in an island, even if he won't be all by himself, I bet it's hard to be in an island for six months. At least he has an internet connection. :P
